The German Electronic Reporting and Information System for Infection Control (DEMIS) is a reporting system developed by the Robert Koch Institute for infectious diseases in accordance with the Infection Protection Act (IfSG).
In light of the COVID-19 crisis, the further development of this system has become particularly important. Above all, it enables end-to-end electronic information processing, starting with those reporting cases (including laboratories and physicians). This is intended to reduce the burden on reporters and the relevant authorities, and ensure that information on emerging infectious diseases reaches those responsible at public health departments, the relevant state authorities, and the RKI more quickly in the future.
bsDEMIS is the GUS LAB DEMIS interface that maps the entire DEMIS reporting structure. Currently, it supports the transfer of LIMS data to the DEMIS adapter developed by gematik GmbH. Data from positive COVID-19 tests is transferred from LIMS LABbase® to bsDEMIS, processed there, and then transferred to the DEMIS adapter, which automatically forwards the data to the RKI.
Since early 2022, it has been possible to transmit data in FHIR format. This gives laboratories the flexibility to choose how they submit files to the RKI. With its integrated bsDEMIS interface, LABbase® is well-equipped to support efforts to combat the COVID-19 pandemic.
