Starting January 1, 2025, electronic invoicing will become mandatory in the B2B sector. In the future, the only distinction will be between e-invoices and other forms of invoicing.
What is an e-bill?
An electronic invoice (e-invoice) is an invoice that is issued, transmitted, and received in a specified, structured electronic data format in accordance with the EN 16931 series of European standards. Its purpose is to enable the automatic and electronic processing of the data contained in the invoice without any media breaks.
Accordingly, the structured electronic data format must comply with the European standard for electronic invoicing and the list of corresponding syntaxes (CEN standard EN 16931). Currently, the format requirements are met, for example, by XRechnung, which is already in use in public procurement. The hybrid ZUGFeRD format, a combination of a PDF document and an XML file, also meets the requirements.
Important to know: Not every invoice created and sent electronically is automatically considered an e-invoice in the legal sense. Whether it’s ZUGFeRD or XRechnung—we’ll help you make the transition as smooth and efficient as possible.
