New addition to the GENII Software Group leadership team: Christian Hanke to head the laboratory division

GSG GENII Software Group (GENII) has appointed Christian Hanke as head of its laboratory division. In this role, he will oversee all companies within the GENII Group that specialize in IT solutions for laboratories. Specifically, these include iVention, Dorner, MDN, Melos, and GUS LAB —a company that was recently formed through the merger of Blomesystem and iCD.

Christian Hanke will continue to bring together the expertise and capabilities of all the laboratory companies under the GENII umbrella to transform the world of laboratory automation. This effort is underpinned by the GENII companies’ laboratory solutions—which are already global leaders in their field—as well as the investments GENII is making to further develop these products.

Christian Hanke has over 25 years of experience in the software industry, primarily in healthcare, pharmaceuticals, and laboratories. For more than 20 years, he served as managing director of Cato Software Solution, a software company he co-founded, which was later integrated as the Austrian subsidiary of Becton Dickinson (BD), a leading global medical technology group. At Becton Dickinson, Hanke held various leadership roles in software marketing, business development, and R&D, managing teams in Europe, the U.S., and China. Most recently, as Senior Director of Informatics at BD Diagnostics, he was responsible for the strategic direction of the software portfolio for Europe. He now brings his experience in successful software development and the global rollout of IT solutions to GENII.

With Christian Hanke as the new head of the laboratory division, the GENII Software Group aims to increasingly integrate existing IT solutions such as LIMS (Laboratory Information and Management Systems), LIS (Laboratory Information Systems), and LES (Laboratory Execution Systems) more closely with the potential of smart devices as well as AI (Artificial Intelligence) and ML (Machine Learning) to pave the way for “Smart Labs.”

“Smart labs are not only characterized by automated workflows and the seamless integration of equipment from various specialized vendors,” says Christian Hanke. “Leading labs are increasingly relying on a centralized, cloud-based system to collect the vast amounts of data generated by these systems in order to gain better insights and perform more effective analyses.”

Hanke also believes the IT market for laboratories is poised for a necessary consolidation: “Given the group’s concentrated laboratory expertise, this presents GENII with an opportunity to significantly expand its position as a major player in the European and global markets. I look forward to helping drive this development forward in a leadership role.”

“With Christian Hanke on board, we are consistently implementing our strategy to bring together and further develop leading providers of enterprise software under the GENII umbrella,” adds Matthias Siekmann, CEO of GENII. “Through targeted and extensive investments in our laboratory automation solutions, we aim to make GENII one of the world’s leading LIMS providers.”
